New diagnostic imaging guidelines now available

The EAO’s guidelines for the use of diagnostic imaging in implant dentistry have been accepted for publication in Clinical Oral Implants Research. The guidelines are available to view online.  

In 2011, an expert panel of radiologists and clinicians met at the Medical University of Warsaw. The EAO’s 2002 diagnostic imaging guidelines were reviewed, updated and extended to include cone beam CT. The Sedentexct panel recommended this following their comprehensive review of the use of cone beam CT imaging in the dental and maxillofacial region. Wider availability of cone beam CT has provided new opportunities for enhanced treatment planning.

The guidelines address the safety, ethical and legal aspects of prescribing diagnostic imaging to patients.
